a time and space is founded by three clinical psychologists who bring a narrative therapy approach to traditional therapy models. we avoid ideas of “disorder” and instead work alongside you to connect you to the knowledge, skills and experiences held in your body, mind and community. we examine some of the societal ideas you may be trying to live up to and help you to navigate life on your own terms.
we support people to navigate a broad range of problems such as low mood, anxiety, burnout and stress, bereavement, loss, fertility issues, difficulties relating to gender and sexuality, parenting challenges, the effects of traumatic experiences and living with health conditions and new diagnoses.
the core of our practice includes:
community and social justice
as a collective we are committed to working in socially just ways. when you enter into our services you are joining a community that challenges inequalities in healthcare. the actions we are currently taking towards this are:
we use a proportion of client fees to fund very low cost and low cost therapy
offering our services to the charity sector
making visible and holding to account the many systems that have held power against us and impacted upon people and particular groups
promoting the skills, knowledges and beliefs of peoples’ local communities
nature and the body
we try and connect people with the wisdoms, knowledges and experiences held within their bodies and the natural world
collaboration
we join our training and clinical expertise with your experiences and values to navigate your problems together
we see therapy as a co-created project
we welcome people from all backgrounds and embrace difference and diversity in relation to race, gender, sexuality, intellectual and physical ability, neurodiversity, religion. we are committed to creating a safe therapeutic space where your personal experience will be held at the centre of any work we do.

therapy is for anyone who wishes to explore something in their life. for example, an aspect of their identity, a difficulty, a loss or change in circumstance. although therapy can be beneficial to anyone, it is just one of a range of potential sources of support and suitability will always be discussed and regularly reviewed with an individual. therapy can be adapted for any individual and for all expressions of difference and diversity.

a clinical psychologist is a protected professional title and refers to someone who has received extensive training in a range of evidence-based therapies for a wide range of psychosocial difficulties. we work with people across the lifespan and people with developmental differences and neurodiversity. clinical psychologists receive their training in the nhs in the same way doctors and nurses do.
we work with individuals, families and groups offering short or long term therapeutic work, depending on the individual's needs. clinical psychologists often have leadership roles within teams and supervise and consult with staff groups.

narrative therapy is a talking therapy, but differs from traditional approaches in that it locates problems outside of the person and in their context. it aims to give people agency over their problems and how they choose to respond to them, whilst also making visible some of the discourses that may have contributed to the “problem story” gaining such a hold over peoples’ lives. it is a respectful and non-blaming approach. it assumes people have the skills, knowledges, competencies, beliefs, values and commitments to reduce the influence of problems over their lives.
